"Sometimes During The Year You Feel Yourself Slippin. You Start Off With All These Unrealistic Goals/Resolutions You've Set For Yourself"
New Year Same Me
Cheers to the most exciting time of the year! The holidays for me always feels like there’s just a little more excitement in the air, doesn’t it? It can be extremely easy to get caught up in the holiday chaos— movies, friends, holiday parties, and traveling to see loved ones. OMG! and let’s talk about the food. I don’t know about you but I eat so much during the holidays. But I try to balance it out and exercise just as much or even more. Lets say I eat 2 slices of my mama’s sweet potato pie instead of the one slice I’d usually eat (or I should eat) In my mind this means I’m staying in the gym 45 minutes more than I would usually. And this is called balancing people!!! —in my mind.
Sometimes during the year you feel yourself “slippin”. You start off with all these unrealistic goals/resolutions you’ve set for yourself. You tell yourself you’re gonna stop doing this or start doing that. You even go as far as to stopping that specific thing or things you said you would stop, but for how long? How long do you stop, 1 week, 3 weeks or maybe a month. Here comes April and May, now ask yourself what happen to your goals? Am I still working towards those same new year’s resolutions? Even me, I had to ask myself this before I finally woke up!
With very little preparation you can set realistic new year’s resolutions and stick with them all year. Make year 2019 (and every year thereafter) the best yet with some new things I like to call habits! Just a little tweaking to get us all started for the New Year.
#1 Smile More
I say it all the time, smiling really is contagious! (The perfect Instagram caption for every picture)
Okay in 2019 I challenge you to #smilemore2019. The next day you go out rather it be to work, an event or just a quick trip to Target. Smile at everybody you walk pass. As you walk into work, smile. Smile at your co-workers and say good morning (yes, even the ones who never say anything back, especially them) See how many people smile back at you. Just take a mental note. Count the smiles you receive, all because you smiled first. Told ya it’s contagious! Of course you’re gonna come across those people who look at you like “WTF is are they so happy about” and yea they probably won’t smile back, they’ll either look down or look away. We all run into people like this, but don’t let them discourage you. I still challenge you to #smilemore2019. You never know what’s going on inside another person’s mind. And hey, they might need that smile from you. I love smiling, if you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you can see I always smile for pictures. They next time you’re passing through, If we are friends just comment a smiling emoji!!
#2 Eat Less Meat
Ok I’m not here to take away your bacon or you’re favorite steak but I am here to tell you to take a break from meat in 2019. I’m also not telling you what I heard I’m telling you what I know. February 2018 I went without meat for only 30 days. #nomeatdiet March 3rd is the day I started eating meat again. (I went to an all you can eat steak house hahaha) Clearly my eyes were bigger than my stomach. It was so hard to eat meat on the very 1st day. My body felt funny and I got full so quick.
With support from my boyfriend (we did the whole no meat thing together) My body felt so clean an energized, I didn’t have that tired and slouchy feeling, I processed my thoughts more clearly and yes of course I lost about 11 lbs. To be extremely honest, me losing weight isn’t the best part. The best part for me was how my body felt from not eating meat for 30 days. Just imagine going without something you’ve had for so long. In my case 20 plus years. The first 4 days was a struggle. I thought I was gonna faint. I quickly realized I had to increase my protein intake. Once I had it all balanced out and wrote down my future meals, the entire experience was a walk in the park. You don’t have to hold out for a whole 30 days like we did. Start off with maybe 2 weeks and gradually keep it going. One of the best feelings I’ve ever experienced. I can’t wait to do it again. This time I’m going without for 2 months.
#3 Count Your Blessing, Not Your Problems
It’s human nature to fuss and complain about all the things we don’t have. We get so caught up in our current situations which lead to temporary emotions that lead to permanent actions. All because we want more. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great thing to always want more in life. But you have to learn how to invite those “great things” into your life. The crazy thing about life is -you get out if it all the things you put into it. So don’t speak that negative stuff into the universe.

Ex: We want a new car so we talk crap about the car we currently have. We call our vehicles a POS (piece of shit), we say things like “we hate them” and we can’t wait to get a new one. In 2019 lets try shifting that energy. Let’s be thankful we have a good working car to get us to a from, lets be thankful it’s 100 degrees outside and we have full blowing AC inside. Let’s be thankful were not hot and sweating with no AC like the people in the car next to you. No, I’m just playing, don’t say that!
Lets try counting our blessing, let’s start thinking (or making a list) of all the things you’re thankful for. What makes you blessed? Learn to appreciate what you do have, life seems to work out better using this strategy.
Remember you are blessed to be a blessing
#4 Talk Less, Listen More
Probably one of the best things I’ve ever heard. In my early twenties I laughed when people would tell me to talk less and listen more. That just was not working for me. How would everyone hear what I had to say if I didn’t talk? How would I get my point across if I didn’t talk? Yea, yea, yea thoughts of a young women just turning 22 maybe…..
Even now I try my best to listen more. It can be a struggle because I am a talker and I always have lots to say. Especially when Im drinking, Tequila or Red Wine. One of the two will have me talking all day and night. In 2019 I’m planing to listen more. Especially when I’m around very intelligent and wise people. They teach you the best things.
We all have New Year’s resolutions, every year we make new ones. In 2019 let’s make realistic resolutions. Let’s work on ourselves and start with these four resolutions. I can promise you these small changes will lead to big changes. You’ll be going on the New Years Retreat 2019 in no time!
What are some of your new year’s resolutions? Are they the same as last years? Are they realistic? Do you see yourself sticking with them the entire 2019?
