"First Impressions Are Everything In Real Life & Social Media"
Brands will reach out to you. There may not be a long line of brands waiting at your front door to work with you now but It’s coming.
When that day comes you want to be ready. You want to appear to be professional, even if your not. You have to be prepared when brands ask you for a social media kit.
The worst response you can give is “I don’t have one” ekkkkkkkkk
As a matter of fact the worst response you can give is “What is a social media kit”
When growing your social media presence having a media kit is what makes you stand out. Let that be one of the very first things you look into creating on your social media journey.
Your media kit is simply a visual representation of your social media statistics. I would best describe it as a resume for your social media status. It’s kind of a big deal in the blogging/influencer world. Even your favorite Youtuber’s use one.
Media kits outline everything that is important about your business in a fun attractive reader friendly format. Based on the data you provide, your favorite brands will use the information to decide if you’re worth the investment.
Let me explain
What Is A Media Kit For Influencers?
Maybe you don’t have a blog or a website. Maybe you’re just an Instagram influencer or an Instagram blogger (I heard that was thing) You should still have your media kit handy because it’s your first impression. It should be saved as an attachment in your phone. Even nano-influencers with less than 1,000 followers are becoming more popular with brands because of their super high engagement rates.
Most brands start the process by requesting a media kit from you. That’s why it is so important to have your business email linked in your bio section of Instagram. Before wasting your valuable time and theirs. The goal is to ensure that you would be a good fit for their brand and that your audience is their target market.
Let’s say a popular hair vitamin brand for women contacts you via email. They want you to promote their products by providing a static post on Instagram, Instagram story un-boxing the products and maybe a Youtube video to go along.
If your audience on Instagram is 80% men and 20% women, the ROI (return on investment) will be little to none. Why? Because most of your audience is male and you’re promoting a hair vitamin for women.
What Is A Media Kit For Bloggers?
Sponsorship’s, Sponsorship’s, & More Sponsorship’s!
Are you are ready to take your blogging seriously, then it’s time for a media kit.
Just as I mentioned above brands like to see media kits because it gives the basics about your blog. The information you pass on helps them to decide if your site is the right outlet to get the word out about their product or service.
Don’t be nervous or shy about having a media kit liked to your site. I faced all of those feelings when I first started blogging. I thought I wasn’t “big enough” for a media kit. I thought I didn’t have great stats to include within my media kit. Obviously I hadn’t worked with any companies yet. So what was I going to include on my media kit?
Finally, I sucked it up and made one!
Want to see my media kit, you can see it via the link on my –Work With Me Page. I have no problem sharing with you guys. In all honestly I need to re-do it. I created my media kit almost two years ago. I see no reason to keep it secret as I truly believe in the sharing of information from one blogger to another.
I prefer to have the link for mine on my Work With Me Page, however I have seen bloggers place theirs on their About Me Pages. No right or wrong way. Just as long as you have one and it’s easy to find.
How To Create A Media Kit?
Canva is the software I used to create mine. While I’m sure there are many other options out there, Canva works just fine for me.
Maybe Canva is not your thing. You can even use Picmonkey to create your media kit. See more about that here: Design Your Free Media Kit Using Picmonkey
A very simple, one-page media kit is all that’s needed when you first start out. As you grow, you will want to expand to a multi-page media kit. As a result, once you grow your media kit should grow too.
So the best thing about using Canva are the templates. Yes, there are free templates right at your fingertips. We all love a template, you just switch up a few things here and there, design to your liking and you’re good to go.
What To Include In A Social Media Kit?
Try not to get too caught up with the small stuff. I spent days changing mine, trying to decide what to include and what not to include. Whatever you do don’t lie, don’t fluff – Just be honest!
Lastly, Once you master creating media kits, offer your services and get paid to create them for other bloggers and influencers . Thank Me Later 🙂
